My Line

I am from “T-I-double-guh-err”, and the best sing-alongs-ever. I’m from the tri-state, from thistles, debtors prisons, an indian princess, and “Alis volat Propriis”.

Where I Was

Interestingly enough, the main focus of my Spring Break vacation was a conference on the mind. So strange how class assignments and my life somehow intersect…

But before I delve into all of that…how did the rest of my Spring Break affect me mentally?

Saturday: We drove from Montgomery to Davenport, FL, real near to Orlando. Three cars, three different groups. I was in the van with a bunch of “young folks”; one guy and four girls, not including myself. What a ride! My mind was bouncing back and forth, but I had to be focused as I used this ride as a topic for my anthropology ethnography paper on a “cultural event.” (Pray that this paper turns out! It is due tomorrow and I have tons of work to do!)

Sunday: Church and re-cooperating from drive. Leaning from the sermon and reflecting on it. Later a Jerry Lewis movie. All in all — an active mind!

Monday: Busch Gardens. This required the use of our brains to read/understand/navigate those crazy maps! But it gave me something to reflect on for class… For once again, maps appear!

Tuesday: We did nothing. It was time for a brain-break from going long and hard.

Wednesday: We went to Downtown Disney. This was memory for my brain b/c in all the places we went I was able to smile and remember the awesome movies and stories of my childhood. Tigger pillows and Snow White made from legos. Yay! BTW I LOVE TIGGER!

Our conference was Thursday afternoon, all day Friday, and Saturday afternoon. (We left for home after the conference and got back around 9.) But the conference was on “The Christian Mind.” With some great speakers, it focused on how as Christians we cannot really love God unless we know him, we cannot know him unless we unless we learn about him, and we will only learn if he teaches and opens up our minds! Following Jesus, having faith, is not some fluffy feeling — it’s real, growing understanding about my need and his sufficiency. For a summary of a speech that made this point, check out this post.

All in all — my mind was stimulated during the break to love God and love others. And to keep applying myself rigorously to my school work.
